From its origins in 1868 to today, Memorial Day has been many things. Intended as a day to remember the Civil War dead, it gradually morphed into, well, one more day off/first day of summer in 1972, when it became one more of many Monday-holidays, the original 30 May date…forgotten.

My classmate and brother-in-arms, Kurush, who now rests in the Arlington Garden of Stone.
Let’s all try to remember that today of all days is supposed to be to remember him and all those others…
