As we all know, on 4 July 1776, everyone in the Congress gathered and signed Jefferson’s epic Declaration of Independence. We also know that’s a crock. Now, lots of countries have Independence Days, but America’s was the first to last for nearly two and a half centuries. But our independence is nominal, in truth. Most of our consumer goods come from offshore. Much of our petroleum is, once again, brought in from elsewhere. And how "independent" are we when we rely on an infrastructure that exists solely because of the generosity of those we supposedly elect to bring us so much of what we have?
The revolutionary war was allegedly the result of 'taxation without representation". Now, we have much more taxations, and no real representation to speak of. But we have great fireworks!
