I’ve said it before, but the date of Labor Day is because the US didn’t want to be associated with the Soviet-celebrated other Labor Day, 1 May. But it’s observed in the US and Canada on the first Monday in September, and all over on 1 May, which explains the “Happy Labour Day” graphics I found doing my due diligence for this piece.
Today is traditionally the end of summer, and the last day we (except brides) can wear white until at least next Easter…I think. If anyone can clarify that, I’d appreciate it. As for the “Happy” part of Labor Day…I’m not sure it’s supposed to be all that happy as much as just observed. But I’m a grammarian of sorts, so I get hung up on that kind of thing.
One hopes it’s not this kind of labor that’s being “celebrated.”
