Frankly, it's difficult for me to accept that this is issue is an issue. What possible justification can be found for regulating (censoring) political speech of any sort. It compares to the Church restricting the speech of Galileo. It compares to the censorship of abolitionists in the run-up to the civil war.

In either case, the 'common wisdom' was that the sun revolved around the earth, and that enslaving blacks was a proper thing to do.

None of us is unbiased or capable of being unbiased. But we can at least attempt to comprehend our own bias. That is the only path to wisdom.

Well, as you know, one can "justify" anything to a select group, or shove it down the throats of those who disagree. And "wisdom" is one-sided, without fixed definition, because your "wisdom" may be someone else's "dogma" or "propaganda" or even "stupidity."

Perhaps we should define the term 'wisdom'. To me, it means what I implied, an ability to see things from all sides. Also, the ability to accept that one's own values are not necessarily handed down from Olympus. Other possibilities need to be considered.

Personally, I define wisdom as the capacity to stop arguing and move on to something else. Others have other ideas.

Dictionary.com says wisdom is the quality or state of being wise; knowledge of what is true or right coupled with just judgment as to action; sagacity, discernment, or insight. Then the trouble begins, because what is "true" or "right" or "just" is a matter of opinion or politics--not necessarily the same things in the 21st Century.

Google has similar issues, saying wisdom is the ability to use knowledge, experience, understanding, and good judgment to make sound decisions, discern truth, and act ethically, focusing on deep insight rather than just information. Yeah: "good judgement" according to who? "Sound decisions" according to...? These days everyone can have their own "truth." And "ethics?" Don't get me started on that.

Some words are just too controversial to define without, well, arguing, slipping into dogma, propaganda, or stupidity.

That is a wise response.
